The short version
A technician adds $25 to a month when they do job work in it: a job they are assigned to gets completed, or they start one of their assigned jobs themselves. Being assigned, driving there, or having field access does not count on its own.
Six examples
- Assigned but idle: Ana is assigned to jobs all month but never starts one, and none of them is completed while she is assigned. She does not count.
- Starts a job that isn't finished: Ben taps Start job on the 30th. The job is completed on the 2nd of next month. Ben counts for the month he started it, and also for next month because the job he is assigned to was completed then.
- Office completes the job: Carla is assigned. A dispatcher marks the job completed from the office. Carla counts that month. The dispatcher does not, unless they were also assigned.
- Removed mid-month after working: Dev starts a job on the 3rd and is removed on the 10th. He counts for that month and never after. If he is still assigned to open jobs that someone completes later, those completions count, so reassign his open jobs when he leaves.
- During the free trial: Everything your technicians do in the first 15 days is free. A month that falls entirely inside the trial bills nothing.
- No field work at all: In a month after the trial with no job work, you are billed the one-technician minimum: $25.
Avoid surprises
- When someone leaves, reassign or unassign their open jobs before you remove them. See Reschedule or reassign a job.
- Keep office users off job assignments unless they really do the work.
- Remember the count runs on your company's time zone, by calendar month.
What if this fails?
- A technician counted who says they never worked that month.
- Look for a job they were assigned to that was completed that month, even by someone else. Completion by anyone counts for everyone assigned at that moment.
- I turned on field access for someone. Did that add a charge?
- No. Field access alone never charges. See Field access and billing.
Common questions
- Does assigning a technician to a job add a charge?
- Not by itself. They count when a job they are assigned to is completed, or when they start one of their assigned jobs.
- If a technician starts a job but does not finish it this month, do they count?
- Yes. Starting an assigned job is job work, so they count for that month.
- Do I pay for someone I removed mid-month?
- Only for the month they worked. They never count again after they stop working, unless jobs they are still assigned to get completed.
